Do malého města v Ohiu přijíždí výpravná show. Po několika písních poznáváme mladičkou Annie Oakley (Betty Hutton), která, chudě oděna v jelení kůži, demonstruje své střelecké schopnosti Franku Butlerovi (Howard Keel), který pracuje pro Wild West Show Buffalo Billa (Louis Calhern). Vyhraje celých 5 amerických dolarů a daruje je svým čtyřem mladším sourozencům. V soutěži se prosadí a stane se hvězdou show Buffala Billa, přičemž doufá, že se dostane k Frankovi, kterého tajně miluje. Annie dokonce jezdí s show po Evropě a adoptuje ji náčelník Sedící Býk. Frustrovaný Frank, který přestal být hlavní hvězdou, ji vyzve k další soutěži. Annie úmyslně mine, čehož si Frank všimne, pochopí a dvojice přestane zuřivě soutěžit o to, kdo je lepší. Oba připraví společné číslo, ale je otázkou, jestli je diváci přijmou v nové úloze. Silně technicolorový muzikál inspirovaný životem slavné střelkyně Annie Oakley. (Peabody)
