Dramatická cesta slavné německé vzducholodi přes oceán. V roce 1937 americká vědma předpoví katastrofu německé lodi Hindenburg a pošle svůj dopis na německé velvyslanectví. Nacistická propaganda však chce dál demonstrovat sílu budoucí všemocné německé říše. Proto s obrovskou vzducholodí Hindenburg vyšle z Frankfurtu zároveň také muže z rozvědky. Ten má zajistit bezpečnost letu i všech cestujících. Brzy se mu skutečně podaří na vzducholodi odhalit sabotáž. Vzhledem k nepředvídaným okolnostem při přistání se mu ale nepodaří katastrofě zabránit… Výpravný film, který získal zvláštní Cenu Akademie za nejlepší vizuální efekty a zvuk, se inspiroval známou tragickou událostí a využívá archivní materiály z cesty vzducholodi Zeppelin LZ-129.
