Jonathan Osborne (Jonathan Kahn), čtrnáctiletý syn vdovy Anne Osborne (Sarah Miles), se zaplete se skupinou chlapců vedenou sadistickým „Šéfem“ (Earl Rhodes). Anne denně sní o svém manželovi, který zemřel před třemi lety. Když v přístavu dočasně zakotví velká obchodní loď, Anne se seznámí s druhým důstojníkem lodi, Jimem Cameronem (Kris Kristofferson).
