Anglie, počátek století. Během odpoledních setkání při šálku čaje poznáváme hlavní postavy: rodinu bohatého podnikatele Wilcoxe, jejich náhodné známé sestry Schlegelovy, intelektuálky německého původu, a také hrdého, ale neúspěšného mladého úředníčka. Vše je pouhé nezávazné přátelství až do okamžiku, kdy umírající paní Wilcoxová nečekaně odkáže romantický venkovský dům Howards End okouzlující Margaretě Schlegelové... Vztahy se mění, propuká podezírání, závist, ale také láska. A uprostřed toho všeho jeden klidný dům, který změní osudy všech lidí kolem něj, který se stane svědkem zabití, konce nadějí, ale i domovem v budoucnu snad moudřejších a šťastnějších dětí... Strhující příběh tří rodin, svázaných k sobě pouty lásky, nenávisti, peněz i závisti. Hluboce lidské osudy lidí, jejichž vztahy určilo srdce a jeden venkovský dům. (oficiální text distributora)
