Na pláně a pastviny ve Wyomingu přijíždí jezdec Shane a nechává se najmout na práci farmářem Joem Starrettem. Přitom vidí, že celý kraj tyranizuje bohatý, samolibý rancher Rufus Rykem - s jediným cílem: chce vyhnat usedlíky z půdy, kterou potřebuje pro svá stáda. Právě on společně s najatými muži využívá toho, že nejbližší šerif je vzdálen několik dnů cesty, a tak zákon" má ve svých rukou ten, kdo je bezohledný a nezastaví se před ničím. Starrett se proti Rykerovi pokusí spojit s ostatními farmáři, ale nenacházejí dostatek sil k odporu. Jediný, kdo se bezpráví a vzrůstajícímu násilí může postavit, je právě Shane. Sblížil se se Starrettovým synem Joeym, který k němu obdivně vzhlíží a očekává u něj pomoc. Když si Ryker najme na odstranění svých soupeřů pistolníka Jacka Wilsona, nastává vhodný okamžik, aby Shane odhalil svou skutečnou tvář... (Česká televize)
