Ve Francouzské Polynésii došlo vinou pokusných jaderných explozí k silnému ozáření. Po nějaké době je napaden japonský tanker neznámým obrovským netvorem. Mezitím je mladý americký biolog Niko Tatopoulos, expert v oboru vlivu radioaktivního záření na živé organismy, povolán ministerstvem vnitra k naléhavému úkolu. V Panamě byly totiž objeveny obrovské stopy neznámého veleještěra. O případ napadené lodi se začne zajímat záhadný Francouz Philipp Roaché, který tvrdí, že zastupuje pojišťovnu. Niko si myslí, že jde o nový druh živočicha, který vznikl mutací, a jeho vyjádření se dostane i na televizní obrazovky, kde ho zahlédne bývalá snoubenka, snaživá reportérka Audrey. Vypukne panika, obrovský, téměř stometrový netvor vstoupí do ulic New Yorku a ukryje se v metru. Na Nikův návrh je navezena na blízké náměstí obrovská hromada ryb, která netvora přiláká. Audrey, která Nika vyhledá, se zmocní tajných záznamů a sestříhá z nich reportáž, kterou se pokusí proslavit. Na scéně se opět objeví Roaché. Ve skutečnosti je agentem francouzské tajné služby a má za úkol Godzillu zabít. Uvnitř slavné Madison Square Garden čeká muže děsivé překvapení v podobě téměř dvou set vajec, z nichž se začínají líhnout malé Godzilly. Niko se pokusí upozornit na nebezpečí, které hrozí lidstvu, a snaží se s agentem, Audrey a kameramanem Victorem uniknout hladovým mláďatům. (TV Nova)
